Lissa Bales and Joan Fitzwater recognized by Department of Correction and Rehabilitation
On May 7, 2008, the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation held the Annual Awards Program. Under the category of a non-departmental Special Appreciation Award, Lissa Bales, Claim Manager for the Montgomery County Self -Insurance program, Department of Finance, Division of Risk Management and Joan Fitzwater, Sr. Adjuster with Gallagher Bassett, a Managed Care Innovations Team Partner received recognition for their efforts to reduce long-term disability cases and return injured workers back to the workplace.
Joan Fitzwater and Lissa Bales have provided relentless assistance with return-to-work cases which have long-term impact on how the department conducts business while providing a significant cost saving to the County. They attend monthly meetings providing detailed information, support and follow through. Additionally, they have been advocates of the Department in critical hearings while spreading the word that DOCR has a model case management review committee. Their kudos has been heard by other County Departments that started modeling their case management efforts after ours. Through their support DOCR has gained extensive support from the County Executive's Office, County Council and County Attorney's Office.
